Sun, Sand & Surf - Photography

Took off for a few days off to recharge and soak up some sun, sand and surf - build up my Stock Photography library. Headed off to one of my favourite places in the world, Nosara - Costa Rica. Nosara is a village and district located in Nicoya caton, Guanacaste province of Costa Rica on the Pacific Coast. It still has a small surf town feel but has seen major growth in the area since the first time I was there 6 years ago as more and more tourists flock to this coastal paradise. Playa Guiones is also the location of a world-renowned yoga schools / retreats. If you are looking for something a little more remote and quiet for now, I highly recommend this place ..the people are amazing and the sunsets are out of this world!

Matthew Good + Our Lady Peace - Concert Photography / Review

It was a sold-out show Friday night at the Grey Eagle Resort and Casino featuring Matthew Good and Our Lady Peace. It was one hell of a Canadian co-headlining tour! Both acts have been deeply imbedded in the Canadian rock scene from the early 90s up to the present day, and it was an amazing night to watch these two bands share the stage.

The evening started out with opening band Ellevator out of Hamilton, Ontario. The band is made up of Elliott Gwynne, Michael Boyd, Nabi Sue Bersche & Tyler Bersche. Their set was pretty amazing.  Check them out online as their music is definitely worth exploring further.

Matthew Good was up next and delivered an incredible set. The first song he played was from his latest release, Something Like a Storm.Afterwards, it was a trip down memory lane with many fan favourites from his extensive catalogue. A few songs in, Matt Good told a story about a recent dilemma he had had with his young son. They were building a very elaborate Lego kit only to find a piece had gone missing. Before the show, Matt had posted on his Instagram feed that he had tried to contact the Lego head office for a replacement part but hadn’t had much success in getting a replacement piece. A Calgary fan contacted Matt and said he would use his 3D printer to replicate the missing lego piece and give it to Matt during the show. In the middle of his set, Matt walked through the crowd, singing, to meet the fan at the soundboard and make the Lego exchange. It was a cool moment for everyone in the audience.

Closing out the night was Our Lady Peace. Their frontman, Raine Maida, always brings an electric energy to every show. It was a great night of reminiscing through some OLP classics along with new material from their newest album, Somethingness. The crowd often sang along to old favourites with the band and their voices filled the space. During his set, Raine thanked Matthew Good for being a leader and spokesperson for mental health before beginning the song, In Repair. Raine spoke passionately to the audience about how he knew that many people are either dealing with mental illness or know someone who is. He went on to say that he feels mental illnesses should be treated and viewed the same as other physical illnesses. Closing out the set was, Ballad of a Poet, which Raine said was a tribute to the late Tragically Hip frontman, Gord Downie. He went on today that Gord’s musicianship and artistry has inspired him throughout his career. For his last song, Raine called Matthew Good to the stage to sing, Hello Time Bomb. It was awesome to see these two iconic artists come together to perform this Canadian classic to end the night.
